Monthly Recap | October 2019

Life Highlights

  • We finally got our first taste of fall here in North Carolina. Of course, since this is the South, it only lasted a few days. But, it was long enough for me to open up my windows for a bit and turn off the AC.
  • I painted my master bedroom from a school bus yellow to a creamy white Sherwin Williams Alabaster. Wow! It makes such a difference. I still can’t believe I lived with that yellow color for 10 years!
  • I am almost completely done purging my house of unwanted stuff. The Goodwill and other local donation centers have really benefited from my minimalism kick.
  • I started food prepping along with Clean Eating. I’ve had some minor health issues recently, and I’m hoping by improving my diet those will go away.

What I’ve Been Writing

I seriously can’t believe that NaNoWriMo begins tomorrow. It feels like only yesterday I began prepping! I didn’t do any writing since this summer, since I was prepping for NaNo, but I did do quite a bit of prep work:

  • Decided on my word count (50,000 for NaNoWriMo, but I’m pushing for 80,000 to complete my novel)
  • Finished my character profiles
  • Decided on my POV & plot formula
  • Worked on my series arc
  • Outlined my top 10 scenes
  • Planned a writing routine & schedule
  • Made a list of topics to research
  • Outlined my ending
  • Wrote a synopsis for each of my four books in the series

Whew! I knocked it out these last few months. I have never felt more prepared for NaNo before, so I am going into this year feeling mega confident that I will not only hit the 50k but also finish my book!

What I’ve Been Blogging

You may have noticed the new look of my website. Well, that wasn’t intentional. My poor website/blog was down for awhile. Neither I nor my hosting site, Namecheap, could figure out what the problem was. But after a lot of detective work, it turned out to be a faulty plugin from my previous WordPress template, which made me pretty unhappy. I purchased two templates from the same shop on Etsy, and now neither of the templates work!

I was, though, very happy with the way Namecheap figured out and fixed the problem. If you are in need of a hosting company, I would highly recommend Namecheap. I have been with them for almost 10 years and have only had a problem one other time. In both instances, they fixed the issue quickly.

This isn’t the first time I have had issues with templates I purchased on Etsy. But, I have learned my lesson. I will never purchase another template from a seller on Etsy. For now, I decided to just use a free WordPress template. I think it looks pretty good, so I am happy with it. If anyone has any suggestions for a good author/writing WordPress template, please send me an email of leave me a comment.
