Countdown to 50: Week 8 Roundup (Days #50-56 of 365)

Welcome to the Week 8 Countdown to 50 Roundup post.

Each week, I’ll be posting a weekly recap of the week’s posts that I’ve been posting over on my Instagram account, and giving a little more info on why I chose the songs I did. If you want to see the entire list, check it out, here. And if you are on Spotify and want to listen to my Countdown to 50 playlist, you can follow and listen to the playlist, here.

Happy Listening!

Day #50 of 365
Song: Gold
Artist: Spandau Ballet
Album: True

This song screams ’80s to me, but so does Spandau Ballet. They are such a totally awesome New Wave ’80s band, and this is my favorite song of theirs. I love the pace of the beginning of this song. It is very unique.

Day #51 of 365
Song: Margaritaville
Artist: Jimmy Buffett
Album: Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes

I had chosen this song for this week long before the passing of Jimmy Buffett. More and more of the musicians and actors/actresses that I’ve grown up are passing away. I’m really starting to feel my age. Growing up in Florida, this song was played quite a lot. So this song brings back fond memories of my younger years in Florida.

Day #52 of 365
Song: 9 to 5
Artist: Dolly Parton
Album: 9 to 5 and Odd Jobs

One of my favorite movies from the ’80s is 9 to 5. My cat, Violet, is named after Lily Tomlin’s character Violet Newstead from the movie. And this song was not only perfect for the movie but is still perfect today. Take a listen to the lyrics. It is relevant 40+ years later.

Day #53 of 365
Song: David Duchovny
Artist: Bree Sharp
Album: A Cheap and Evil Girl

I was a huge X-Files fan in the ’90s and loved David Duchovny. Fun fact, David Duchovny and I share the same birthday! So when this song came out, I was all over this song. It is such a fun, cute, and quirky song. I love to sing along to it.

Day #54 of 365
Song: Vienna
Artist: Billy Joel
Album: The Stranger

Another song with amazing lyrics, but then again this is Bily Joel. He always has some of the best lyrics. I feel like this is one of his less well-known songs, which is one of the reasons why I love this one so much. Some of Billy Joel’s songs can be a bit overplayed.

Day #55 of 365
Song: Stand Back
Artist: Stevie Nicks
Album: The Wild Heart

Stevie is the best! This was one of my favorite songs in the ’80s and is still one of my all-time favorite songs. When it comes on the radio or on my Spotify playlist I turn it up and sing to it at the top of my lungs.

Day #56 of 365
Song: Somebody’s Watching Me
Artist: Rockwell
Album: Somebody’s Watching Me

I hate to say it, but back in the day I really only listened to this song for Michael Jackson. I was a huge Michael Jackson fan in the ’80s, and he sings the chorus of this song. Over the years, I have enjoyed it more and more, and not just for Michael Jackson. And if you want to hear a really awesome cover of this song, check out Hidden Citizens’ version. It is epic!
