Welcome to the Week 6 Countdown to 50 Roundup post.
Each week, I’ll be posting a weekly recap of the week’s posts that I’ve been posting over on my Instagram account, and giving a little more info on why I chose the songs I did. If you want to see the entire list, check it out, here. And if you are on Spotify and want to listen to my Countdown to 50 playlist, you can follow and listen to the playlist, here.
Happy Listening!
Day #36 of 365
Song: This Town
Artist: The Go-Go’s
Album: Beauty & The Beat
While this album is most known for spawning some of The Go-Go’s most famous hits like “We Got the Beat” and “Our Lips Are Sealed”, which may or may not be showing up on this countdown at some point, “This Town” was always one of my favorite songs off of Beauty and the Beat. This album also holds a special place in my heart. My aunt gave it to me for Christmas one year. She passed away two years ago, and every time I see this album cover I think of her.
Day #37 of 365
Song: Get Here
Artist: Oleta Adams
Album: Circle of One
Another amazing alto voice. I didn’t realize this was a remake of a 1988 song by Brenda Russell. I don’t think I ever heard that version. I just remember this one and Oleta’s awesome low voice. Love this song!
Day #38 of 365
Song: Desire (Come & Get It)
Artist: Gene Loves Jezebel
Album: Discover
This was another song and artist that I first heard on the local high school radio station. I found a lot of my indie/alternative music there. The chorus is super catchy and the lead singer’s voice is very unique. I really love a unique voice. Plus, I love the “Sugar” in the chorus, which I thought he sang “Chu Chu.” I’ve been singing it wrong for 30+ years. You learn something new every day!
Day #39 of 365
Song: Every Mile Mattered
Artist: Nichole Nordeman
Album: Every Mile Mattered
Nichole Nordeman is one of my absolutely favorite Christian music artists. I’ve been listening to her since she first hit the Christian music scene back in the ’90s. Her voice is incredible, but it is her lyrics that always have me in awe. Some artists’ lyrics really speak to me, and Nichole Nordeman is one of those artists. This song in particular has some amazing lyrics.
Day #40 of 365
Song: Foolin’
Artist: Def Leppard
Album: Pyromania
Ahh! Def Leppard! One of my favorite rock bands of the ’80s. I don’t classify them as a hairband, although a lot of people do put them in the hairband/hair metal genre. They have so many incredible hits over their career. This is one of my all-time favorites. I almost saved this one for later in the countdown, but I decided to not save all of my favorite songs to the end. Plus, there is another Def Leppard song that comes pretty close to being my absolute favorite. I’m saving that one for later.
Day #41 of 365
Song: Run to You
Artist: Bryan Adams
Album: Reckless
A few years ago, I won tickets from a local radio station to see Bryan Adams perform stripped-down versions of his greatest hits live. His version of this song was one of the best I have heard. I missed out on seeing a lot of artists perform live in the ’80s & ’90s, so over the past ten or so years I’ve been making up for it.
Day #42 of 365
Song: Tin Man
Artist: Miranda Lambert
Album: The Weight of These Wings
One of my favorite country-rock-pop artists. I especially love me some angry Miranda Lambert, which will be coming up on the countdown soon, but this one is one of her much quieter and sadder songs. Again, the lyrics are amazing! If you’ve never heard this song, take a listen to it. And if you can’t tell from the title, it references The Wizard of Oz!
