Welcome to the Week 11 Countdown to 50 Roundup post.
Each week, I’ll be posting a weekly recap of the week’s posts that I’ve been posting over on my Instagram account, and giving a little more info on why I chose the songs I did. If you want to see the entire list, check it out, here. And if you are on Spotify and want to listen to my Countdown to 50 playlist, you can follow and listen to the playlist, here.
Happy Listening!
Day #71 of 365
Song: Back to You
Artist: Timecop1983 & The Bad Dreamers
Album: Night Drive
I discovered this song a couple of years ago thanks to my weekly Spotify weekly playlist. And while this was released in 2018, it sounds like it was released in 1988. It has a very ’80s synth-pop sound that I love. It is a great song!
Day #72 of 365
Song: Wish You Were the Whiskey
Artist: Priscilla Block
Album: Welcome to the Block Party
This is one of my favorite songs from the 2000s. I found this one while I was searching for songs for my newest Southern novel. I love the melody, the lyrics, and Priscilla Block’s voice. I just love this song. Plus, it has such a catchy chorus that I catch myself singing all day long.
Day #73 of 365
Song: What About Love
Artist: Heart
Album: Heart
Heart is one of my favorite female-fronted rock bands with killer rock songs from the ’70s, which will show up later on the countdown, but this ’80s album is my favorite from them. It has so many amazing songs including this one.
Day #74 of 365
Song: Misled
Artist: Kool and the Gang
Album: Emergency
I’ve always liked Kool and the Gang. In chorus, we sang several of the more famous Kool and the Gang songs. This song is one of their less well-known ’80s hit songs, which is probably why it is my favorite.
Day #75 of 365
Song: Renegade
Artist: Styx
Album: Pieces of Eight
Do you have a song that featured in either a movie or TV show that every time you hear it you associate it with a scene from that movie or TV show? That is what I do every time I hear this song. This was featured in one of my favorite episodes of the TV show Supernatural, and the writers did such a great job incorporating the song into the integral scene that I can’t listen to this song without thinking of that scene.
Day #76 of 365
Song: Life in a Northern Town
Artist: The Dream Academy
Album: The Dream Academy
Very few songs truly make me sad. This is one of those songs. I don’t know if it is the melody, the lyrics, or the mood. I can’t put my finger on it. But every time I hear this song it makes me tear up.
Day #77 of 365
Song: Bye Bye Bye
Artist: NSYNC
Album: No Strings Attached
In the ’90s, everyone either loved The Backstreet Boys or NSYNC. I always preferred NSYNC, although I did like a few of The Backstreet Boys songs and even saw them in concert. This was always one of my favorite songs. Their Christmas album is great too.
